Water audit

Water audit is a comprehensive analysis of the water management of an industrial entity.

7

The comprehensive analysis of the industrial company deals primarily with water resources, water use in the company, as well as wastewater management and water data management. It is fully compatible and complements each other with the methodology of Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic.

Basic elements of water audit

1. Implementation and compliance with the requirements of the European standard ISO 46001:2019 (Water efficiency management systems).

2. Obtaining complete, independent information about water management in an industrial company.

3. Proposal for innovative implementation measures within the framework of the audit.

4. Essential basis of sustainable “water management” at company level.

Water audit objectives

The basic purpose of the process is to evaluate the current state of water management within the company as a whole. The basis of the data analysis is the real data of the company from a period of 3 years retrospectively. The evaluation concerns the assessment of the use and quality of water resources, the quality and functionality of the distribution and drainage network, discharges and, where appropriate, the recovery and recycling of waste, rainwater and process water, cooling circuits. It also includes an assessment of the management of water assets and the processing and storage of the company’s water data.

The data obtained by the subsequent evaluation are the basis for the design of a strategy of potential water saving and reduction of the impact of water scarcity.

The output of the whole process is the design of real measures, which is further the basis for the investment plan.

What are the benefits of water audit for the investor?

First of all, it is the acquisition of independent assessment of water management in the company for internal needs, cost optimisation and efficiency of management.

Another significant advantage is in the subsequent process of introducing new standards and technologies, where companies with water audit will benefit when evaluating applications for investment grants from the Operational Programme – Technologies and Application for Competitiveness (OP-TAK) for the period 2021-2027, which is under the responsibility of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic.

Last but not least, water audit undertakings will be given the opportunity to apply for award of the so-called  “ecolabel” of Ministry of the Environment –  “Label of responsible water management”.

Project financing

For the processing of water audit, small and medium-sized companies up to 250 employees and an annual turnover of up to 50 million EUR outside the territory of Prague can apply for funds from the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic within the programme, OP-PIK MPO, II. výzva – Poradenství [2nd call – Consultancy]. Applications for subsidies from the Ministry of Industry and Trade are received from 1 March 2021 to 30 June 2021.

The total allocation of the call is 130 million CZK and the amount of support for the implementation of the water audit is 50% of the total cost of the project. The maximum cost of carrying out the water audit is 2 mil. CZK, i.e. support of up to CZK 1 million can be obtained.
